MHC-Correlated Odour Preferences In Humans And The Use Of Oral Contraceptives

A well-publicised experiment previously showed that women choose body olfactory perception of hands who ar genetically dissimilar to themselves. In contrast, contraceptive pill-users preferred comparatively similar workforce.

If pill-use alters preferences and pick of collaborator, resulting between-partner genetic law of similarity could suit fertility issues, but the difference might alternatively be due to unrelated differences between pill-users and non-users.

We tested this directly, comparing women before and after initiating pill-use.

Although women did not prefer dissimilar hands overall, pill-use did wobble preference towards genetically-similar odours. If olfactory property influences human mate alternative, our results suggest that contraceptive pill-use could interrupt natural first mate preferences.

Coldplay set for first Number One single

Coldplay look likely to score their first Number One single this weekend, with 'Viva La Vida' currently at the top spot in the midweek charts today (June 17).

The track, taken from the group's fourth album 'Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends', is currently a few hundred copies above last week's Number One, Mint Royale's 'Singin' In The Rain', reports Music Week.

With 'Violet Hill' rising from 12 to 10 last week, it looks extremely likely Coldplay will have two tracks in the Top Ten come Sunday's (June 22) Singles Chart rundown (June 22), so make sure you check NME.COM's chart report at 7pm (BST).

'Viva La Vida' was given away as a free download to those who pre-ordered the group's album, so was not eligible for the charts until the record's release last Thursday (June 12).

However, 'Viva La Vida''s slot at Number One is by no means certain, as Music Week report that only 2,000 sales currently separate the track from the Number Eight entry, Chris Brown's 'Forever'.

Coldplay were accused of copying 'Viva La Vida' from an unsigned American band after it was claimed Chris Martin had seen them live last October.

It later transpired the song was not only written before the gig, but the Coldplay singer was on the other side of the Atlantic at the time.

White Stripes - White Stripes Stage Odd Reunion At Raconteurs Show

THE WHITE STRIPES star MEG WHITE thrilled fans onstage at a RACONTEURS show in Detroit, Michigan on Sunday (08Jun08) when she joined bandmate JACK WHITE for an encore.

The crowd at the Fillmore cheered as Meg suddenly appeared behind the drumkit as Jack White returned to the stage for the group's encore, but there was no White Stripes treat in store.

After being introduced, Meg simply waved at the hometown crowd and walked off the stage, leaving the rest of the Raconteurs to join Jack White to close out the show.

The odd reunion marked the first time the Whites have been onstage together since Meg's "acute anxiety" forced the band to cancel dates last September (07).
